Makarska Open: Wang into semi-finals after Fruhvirtova retires

Chinese Xiyu Wang, the No 4 seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the Makarska Open when No 6 seed Brenda Fruhvirtova retired on Friday evening.
Wang, ranked No 61, led 5-0 when Fruhvirtova, ranked No 89, pulled out on Friday evening.
The Chinese will face American Katie Volynets, the No 8 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, Xiyu Wang won against Croat qualifier Sara Svetac (6-2, 4-6, 6-1) and Croat Lucija Ciric Bagaric (7-5, 7-6 (6)).
Brenda Fruhvirtova beat Swiss Simona Waltert (6-2, 6-3) and Russian Ekaterina Makarova (6-0, 7-5) earlier in the tournament.
