Dominic Thiem bowed out of Roland-Garros qualifying in the second round, losing 6-2, 7-5 to Otto Virtanen of Finland.
The Austrian had got past Franco Agamenone 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Monday.
After his defeat, tournament director Amelie Mauresmo presented Thiem with a gift showcasing the way that the Roland-Garros courts are created.
The 30-year-old has reached two Roland-Garros finals previously, in 2018 and 2019, but was not given a wildcard for the main draw this year.
Thiem intends to retire later this year following a four-year struggle with injury.
