Rome Masters: Zverev books spot in last 16 against Borges

Alexander Zverev beat Luciano Darderi 7-6 (3), 6-2 on Sunday evening and will play Portuguese Nuno Borges in the next round

German Alexander Zverev, the No 3 seed, defeated Italian Luciano Darderi 7-6 (3), 6-2 to reach the last 16 of the Rome Masters at the Foro Italico in Roma on Sunday evening.

Zverev, ranked No 5, will play Portuguese Nuno Borges next.

The German won against Australian Aleksandar Vukic (6-0, 6-4) in the previous round of the Italian Open.

Earlier in the tournament, Darderi, ranked No 54, edged out Canadian Denis Shapovalov (6-7 (4), 6-3, 7-6 (4)) and won against Argentinian Mariano Navone, the No 28 seed (6-3, 6-2).
