American Sofia Kenin, the No 6 seed, edged out Spanish wildcard Irene Burillo Escorihuela 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 to move into the last 16 of the Catalonia Open on Wednesday.
Kenin, ranked No 60, will play American Ashlyn Krueger next.
