Madrid Open: Putintseva through to third round as Xinwen Zheng retires due to injury
Yulia Putintseva benefited from the abandonment of Qinwen Zheng (7-5, 2-0) on Friday. She’ll play American Caroline Dolehide in the next round

Kazakh Yulia Putintseva moved into the third round of the Madrid Open when Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 6 seed, retired at the Caja Magica on Friday.
Putintseva, ranked No 50, led 7-5, 2-0 when Zheng, ranked No 8, pulled out at the Caja Magica on Friday afternoon, having had treatment for what seemed like an injury high up on her right leg.
The Kazakh will face American Caroline Dolehide next.
Yulia Putintseva beat Chinese Yue Yuan (6-2, 6-4) in the previous round of the Madrid tournament.
