Austin Open: Wang upsets top seed Kalinina to reach final
Wang to face fellow Chinese Yue Yuan, the No 8 seed, in the final
China’s Xiyu Wang, the No 6 seed, defeated Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, the top seed, 6-3, 7-6 (4) to reach the final of the Austin Open at the Westwood Country Club on Saturday.
Wang, ranked No 64, will face fellow Chinese Yue Yuan, the No 8 seed, in the final.
Ahead of her win today, the 22-year-old Chinese won against Argentinian Nadia Podoroska (7-5, 6-4), Latvian Darja Semenistaja (6-1, 6-2) and American Danielle Collins, the No 3 seed (6-2 ret.).
Kalinina, ranked No 35, won against qualifier Sara Bejlek (6-3, 6-2), Colombian Camila Osorio (6-1, 6-2) and Frenchwoman Diane Parry, the No 5 seed (1-6, 6-4, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Austin tournament.
