Delray Beach Open: Cobolli advances to quarter-finals

Italian lucky loser Flavio Cobolli won against American qualifier Zachary Svajda 6-4, 6-7 (1), 6-2 to reach the last 8 of the Delray Beach Open at the Delray Beach Stadium and Tennis Center on Thursday night.
Cobolli, ranked No 72, will play the winner of the match between qualifier Radu Albot and American Frances Tiafoe, the second seed, next.
“After the second set I was so nervous, but I tried to be calm on the bench and stay focused for the next set,” Cobolli said.
The Italian is into his third ATP quarter-final, and second of 2024 (also Montpellier, earlier this month). He is the third lucky loser to reach the quarter-finals in Delray Beach Open history.
Ahead of his victory, the 21-year-old Italian edged out Japanese Taro Daniel (1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (1)).
Svajda, ranked No 146, beat Australian Max Purcell, the No 8 seed (7-5, 6-3) in the previous round of the Delray Beach tournament.
