Dane Holger Rune, the No 3 seed, advanced to the second round of the Rotterdam Open by winning against Russian Roman Safiullin 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 at the Rotterdam Ahoy.

Rune, ranked No 7, will face Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko next.
