Australian Open: Ruthless Sabalenka double-bagels No 28 seed Tsurenko
Aryna Sabalenka beat Lesia Tsurenko 6-0, 6-0 on Friday night and will face American Amanda Anisimova in the next round
Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, beat Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko, the No 28 seed, 6-0, 6-0 to move into the last 16 of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park on Friday.
The defending champion took just 52 minutes to demolish the world No 33, crushing 16 winners and just seven unforced errors across the match. She becomes the first woman to deliver a double-bagel at the 2024 Australian Open.
Sabalenka has now won 10 consecutive matches at the Australian Open, having waltzed through her opening two matches as well.

“Last year Iga [Swiatek] won so many sets 6-0,” Sabalenka said on court after the match, appearing to have barely broken a sweat. “This is one of my goals, to try to get closer to her.
“I’m just so happy with my level, I just hope I can keep going like this or better.”
Sabalenka, ranked No 2, will face American Amanda Anisimova next.
The Belarusian won against German qualifier Ella Seidel (6-0, 6-1) and qualifier Brenda Fruhvirtova (6-3, 6-2) in the previous rounds. Earlier in the tournament, Tsurenko, ranked No 33, won against Italian Lucia Bronzetti (3-6, 7-5, 6-3) and Spaniard Rebeka Masarova (6-3, 6-4).
