A day after news emerged that he would face a trial in May in Germany on charges of physically abusing his ex-girlfriend – charges which he has repeatedly denied – sixth seed Alexander Zverev overcame a first set wobble to beat countryman Dominik Koepfer in the first round of the Australian Open on Tuesday.
Zverev, ranked No 6 in the world, won 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3), 6-3 and will next face Slovak qualifier Lukas Klein in the second round at Melbourne Park.
