“Novak’s compliments are a huge deal for me” – Prizmic speaks after Djokovic display
Dino Prizmic stepped into the spotlight after a fine performance against the world No 1
One hour after midnight, Dino Prizmic showed up in front of the media following his marvellous performance in a loss to Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the Australian Open.
“This is his moment,” said Djokovic in the on-court interview before praising the 18-year-old from Split at length.
Prizmic took up that opportunity, saying to his national media: “I am proud of myself because of the way I played. My Grand Slam main draw debut, I just wanted to enjoy on the court against the best player of all time. I think I learned a lot from Novak, and now it’s back to work.”
Djokovic said that Prizmic reminded him of himself so much that it felt like he was playing a mirror – something which thrilled the teenager.
“Novak gave me a lot of compliments, which is a huge deal for me and I really appreciate it. His kins words are a great satisfaction for me. The stadium was full, people were into it, I just wanted to showcase my skills in the best possible manner.”
Prizmic: I hope I’ll have this kind of support in the future
Firm off the ground and with unwavering belief, Prizmic impressed everyone who watched the match.
“Best match of my career so far, but I still have to improve a lot of things, I want to get better every day. I just started playing on a more serious level, I hope I will stay motivated like I have been before now. I shared a battle with Novak, saw where I am at the moment – I wanted to give him a hard time, but now I want him to win the title.”
Asked how it felt when he heard the crowd chanting his name, Prizmic answered: “That extra support means you just ride that wave. I hope to have that kind of support in the future too. I have over 10,000 messages in my phone right now. I will answer in the next couple of days to the people I know, so far I just talked to my closest ones.”
