Montevideo Open: Montgomery beats Taborda to reach last eight

American Robin Montgomery reached the quarter-finals of the Montevideo Open by defeating Argentinian Martina Capurro Taborda, the No 3 seed, 6-1, 6-3 at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club.

Montgomery, ranked No 218, will face Swiss Ylena In-Albon next.

The 19-year-old American won against Spaniard Leyre Romero Gormaz (7-6 (5), 6-3) in the previous round of the Uruguayan tournament.

During the first round of the Uruguayan tournament, Capurro Taborda, ranked No 157, won against American wildcard Taly Licht (6-1, 6-1).
