Argentina Open: Carle upsets Diane Parry to reach semi-finals
Maria Lourdes Carle beat Diane Parry 7-6 (2), 6-3 at the Challenger event in Argentina and will play home hope Julia Riera, the No 7 seed, in the next round
Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle, the No 8 seed, defeated Frenchwoman Diane Parry, the top seed, 7-6 (2), 6-3 to advance to the last four of the Argentina Open at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club.
Carle, ranked No 175, will face Argentinian Julia Riera, the No 7 seed, next.
The Argentinian won against Brazilian Gabriela Ce (3-6, 6-0, 6-3) and Ipek Oz (6-1, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Argentinian tournament, Parry, ranked No 94, won against Georgian qualifier Ekaterine Gorgodze (6-1, 6-2) and Argentinian wildcard Julieta Lara Estable (6-3, 6-3).
