Days after guiding Italy to its first Davis Cup title since 1976, world no 4 Jannik Sinner received a rousing reception in Milan as he attended the UEFA Champions League clash between AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund at the San Siro stadium on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old’s recent success has certainly not gone unnoticed with fans back home, as evidenced in Turin during the ATP Finals and then again on Tuesday in front of football fans in Milan.
Sinner was welcomed with loud enthusiastic chants of his name by the packed crowd as he arrived in the stadium after which he waved to the fans in appreciation of their support.
The world No 4 ended his year by reaching the finals of the season-ending ATP Finals, where he beat world No 1 Novak Djokovic in the round-robin stage before falling to the Serb in the championship match.
Last week, Sinner then scored another victory over Djokovic, this time after saving three match points, in singles and doubles to lead Italy to a 2-1 win over Serbia before helping his nation beat Australia in the final.
