Russian Alexander Shevchenko advanced to the final of the Metz Open by beating French wildcard Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-4, 6-4 at Arènes de Metz on Friday afternoon.
Shevchenko, ranked No 63, will play the winner of the match between Italian wildcard Fabio Fognini and Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 4 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, the 22-year-old Russian won against French qualifier Mathias Bourgue (6-4, 7-5), Hungarian lucky loser Mate Valkusz (7-5, 2-6, 6-2) and No 3 seed Karen Khachanov (6-4, 6-4).
Herbert, ranked No 344, defeated wildcard Arthur Cazaux (7-6 (7), 6-4), Dutch lucky loser Gijs Brouwer (7-5, 6-4) and Luca Van Assche (4-6, 6-3, 7-5) earlier in the tournament.
