Swiss Indoors: Hurkacz moves into semis; boosts ATP Finals qualification hopes
Hubert Hurkacz edged out Tallon Griekspoor 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-4 on Friday afternoon and will face the winner of the match between Frenchman Ugo Humbert and Swiss wildcard Dominic Stricker in the next round
Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 4 seed, advanced to the last four of the Swiss Indoors by edging out Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-4 at the Halle Saint-Jacques in Basel on Friday.
Hurkacz, ranked No 11, will play the winner of the match between Frenchman Ugo Humbert and Swiss wildcard Dominic Stricker next. The Pole stands 10th in the live race to Turin, now in touching distance of eighth-placed Holger Rune.
“He’s such a great opponent and great guy as well of the court,” Hurkacz said. “We had some crazy battles this year. Last time he won, he beat me in Halle, so I was definitely excited for this match, to get a shot at a rematch. We just battled and my serve was definitely helping me today.”
The Pole beat Serb Dusan Lajovic (7-6 (2), 6-3) and German Jan-Lennard Struff (6-1, 6-4) ahead of his victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Griekspoor, ranked No 25, won against Brazilian lucky loser Thiago Seyboth Wild (7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-3) and Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 5 seed (6-4, 6-3).
