Vienna Open: Zverev into quarter-finals with straight sets win over Norrie
Alexander Zverev won against Cameron Norrie 6-2, 6-4 on Wednesday evening. He’ll play the winner of Matteo Arnaldi and Andrey Rublev in the next round
German Alexander Zverev, the No 5 seed, reached the quarter-finals of the Vienna Open by beating Cameron Norrie 6-2, 6-4 at the Wiener Stadthalle on Wednesday evening.
Zverev was sublime on serve against the Brit, blasting nine aces, making 82 percent of first serves, and winning the point 80 percent of the time he made his first serve. Add in 24 winners and just nine unforced errors across the course of the one hour, 19 minute match, and this was just the performance the German would have been looking for as he seeks to confirm his spot in the Nitto ATP Finals next month.
Zverev, ranked No 10, will play the winner of the match between Italian Matteo Arnaldi and Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 3 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, the German won against Austrian wildcard Sebastian Ofner (6-4, 6-1).
Norrie, ranked No 18, won against Austrian qualifier Filip Misolic (7-6 (7), 4-6, 6-3) in the previous round of the Vienna tournament.
