Transylvania Open: Ruse continues dream run, taking out No 4 seed to reach final
Elena-Gabriela Ruse won against Rebeka Masarova 6-1, 6-4 on Saturday afternoon and will face Tamara Korpatsch for the title
Romanian wildcard Elena-Gabriela Ruse has continued her brilliant run on home soil this week, moving into the final of the Transylvania Open by winning against Spaniard Rebeka Masarova, the No 4 seed, 6-1, 6-4 on Saturday afternoon.
Ruse, ranked No 188, was dominant on return against Masarova, winning more than 60 percent of the Spaniard’s first and second serves and making seven breaks of serve. She’ll now play Tamara Korpatsch in the Transylvania Open final tomorrow.
The Romanian beat American Alycia Parks, the second seed (6-2, 1-6, 6-4), Hungarian Anna Bondar (7-6 (4), 6-2) and Colombian Emiliana Arango (6-1, 0-6, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Cluj-Napoca tournament, Masarova, ranked No 67, defeated German Noma Noha Akugue (6-4, 6-0), Romanian wildcard Miriam Bulgaru (3-6, 7-6 (8), 6-0) and Romanian Ana Bogdan, the No 5 seed (3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3).
