Transylvania Open: Korpatsch beats countrywoman Lys to reach first WTA final
The German will face the winner of the match between Spaniard Rebeka Masarova, the No 4 seed, and Romanian wildcard Elena-Gabriela Ruse for the title
German Tamara Korpatsch beat countrywoman Eva Lys 6-4, 6-3 to move into the final of the Transylvania Open at the BTarena in Cluj-Napoca on Saturday.
Korpatsch, ranked No 105 in the world, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Rebeka Masarova, the No 4 seed, and Romanian wildcard Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the final.
Ahead of her win today, Korpatsch had won against Frenchwoman Leolia Jeanjean (6-4, 2-6, 6-3), No 8 seed Jodie Burrage (2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5)) and Ukrainian Daria Snigur (3-6, 6-2, 6-4).
Lys, ranked No 133 in the world, won against Romanian Sorana Cirstea, the top seed (6-3, 6-3), Romanian Jaqueline Cristian (2-6, 7-5, 6-2) and Russian qualifier Ekaterina Makarova (6-2, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Cluj-Napoca tournament.
