China Open: Gauff reaches quarter-finals, wins 15th match in a row
Coco Gauff won against Veronika Kudermetova 7-6 (5), 6-2 on Thursday night and will play the winner of the match between Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 6 seed, and Chinese Xinyu Wang in the next round
American Coco Gauff, the No 3 seed, reached the quarter-finals of the China Open by winning against Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 16 seed, 7-6 (5), 6-2 at National Tennis Center in Beijing on Thursday night.
This was Gauff’s 15th win in a row – the longest streak on the WTA tour this year.
Gauff, ranked No 3, will face the winner of the match between Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 6 seed, and Chinese Xinyu Wang next.
Ahead of her victory, the 19-year-old American defeated Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova (7-5, 6-3) and edged out Croat Petra Martic (7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (2)).
Kudermetova, ranked No 16, won against Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko (3-6, 6-0, 6-0) in the previous round of the Beijing tournament.
