Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech reached the quarter-finals of the Chengdu Open by defeating American Marcos Giron 7-6 (2), 6-4 at the Sichuan International Tennis Center on Saturday night.
Rinderknech, ranked No 67, will play the winner of the match between Australian qualifier Philip Sekulic and Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the second seed, next.
In the previous round of the Chengdu tournament, the Frenchman won against Australian lucky loser Li Tu (7-6 (5), 7-6 (6)).
Giron, ranked No 64, beat Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 5 seed (7-6 (6), 6-3) in the previous round of the Chengdu tournament.
