Slovak lucky loser Viktoria Hruncakova reached the quarter-finals of the Galaxy Holding Group Guangzhou Open by edging out Chinese wildcard Yue Yuan 7-6 (5), 5-7, 6-4 on Wednesday.
Hruncakova, ranked No 128, will face Chinese Xiyu Wang next.
Ahead of her victory, the Slovak defeated Russian Anna Kalinskaya (7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3).
Yuan, ranked No 137, won against German Tamara Korpatsch (6-3, 7-6 (5)) in the previous round.
