Colombian Emiliana Arango won against American Sloane Stephens 6-1, 6-2 to move into the last 16 of the Guadalajara Open Akron on Tuesday evening.
Arango, ranked No 180, will face the winner of the match between lucky loser Elvina Kalieva and Taylor Townsend next.
The 22-year-old Colombian beat Russian Anastasia Potapova, the No 11 seed (6-4, 6-3) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Stephens, ranked No 38, won against qualifier Ann Li (7-5, 6-4).
