San Diego Open: Garcia avenges recent losses to Stephens to reach quarter-finals
The Frecnhwoman will play American Danielle Collins in the next round

France’s Caroline Garcia, the second seed, moved into the last eight of the Cymbiotika San Diego Open by winning against American Sloane Stephens 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 on Wednesday.
The win improves Garcia’s head-to-head against Stephens to 5-3 and avenges two recent losses to the American. Stephens had won over the Frenchwoman in in Guadalajara last year and in Cincinnati last month.
Garcia, ranked No 10, will face American Danielle Collins next. The Frenchwoman will be looking to reach her first semi-final on tour since Lyon in early March.
Stephens, ranked No 36, beat Belgian Elise Mertens (6-1, 6-3) in the previous round.
