American Madison Keys, the No 17 seed, beat No 9 seed Marketa Vondrousova 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the last four of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Wednesday night.
Keys, ranked No 17, will play Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the American defeated Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus (6-2, 6-4), Belgian lucky loser Yanina Wickmayer (6-1, 6-2), Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 14 seed (5-7, 6-2, 6-2) and No 3 seed Jessica Pegula (6-1, 6-3).
Vondrousova, ranked No 9, beat qualifier Na-Lae Han (6-3, 6-0), Italian Martina Trevisan (6-2, 6-2), Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 22 seed (6-2, 6-1) and American Peyton Stearns (6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
