US Open: 16th seed Norrie knocked out in third round
Matteo Arnaldi won against Cameron Norrie 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 on Saturday evening and will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, and No 26 seed Daniel Evans in the next round
Italian Matteo Arnaldi moved into the last 16 of the US Open by beating No 16 seed Cameron Norrie 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Saturday evening.
Arnaldi, ranked No 61, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, and No 26 seed Daniel Evans next.
The 22-year-old Italian benefited from the abandonment of Australian Jason Kubler (6-3, 1-0) and won against Frenchman Arthur Fils (3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (5), 5-7, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Flushing Meadows tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Norrie, ranked No 16, defeated Russian Alexander Shevchenko (6-3, 6-2, 6-2) and qualifier Yu Hsiou Hsu (7-5, 6-4, 6-4).
