WTA rankings: Ostapenko drops out of the Top 20

Since winning the title in Birmingham, Jelena Ostapenko hasn’t been able to follow up her performances very well. And on Monday, she paid the price by dropping another place in the rankings, forcing her to say goodbye to the Top 20 for the time being.

Seeded 20th at the US Open, the Latvian will look to begin her resurgence with a first-round match against Jasmine Paolini.

Of the leading British players, Katie Boulter falls a single place to world No 61 while Jodie Burrage stays put at No 96. Boulter begins her US Open campaign on Tuesday against France’s Diane Parry, while Burrage faces Anna Blinkova.

And heading into their home slam, some Americans are looking promising – former US Open champion Sloane Stephens rises two places to world No 35, while Jessica Pegula stays put at world No 3, with Coco Gauff three places behind her.

The week’s biggest climber is Sara Sorribes Tormo, up 40 places to No 55 after winning the Tennis is the Land title.
