Chinese qualifier Xinyu Wang won against Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 11 seed, 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the last 8 of the Tennis in the Land at Cleveland’s iconic Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica in Flats West Bank on Tuesday evening.

Wang, ranked No 56, will face the winner of the match between Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 4 seed, and Belarusian qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich next.

The 21-year-old Chinese edged out French qualifier Clara Burel (7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-5) in the previous round.

In the previous round, Paolini, ranked No 35, beat Pole qualifier Magdalena Frech (6-1, 6-3).
