German Dominik Koepfer edged out Frenchman Constant Lestienne 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (8) to reach the second round of the Winston-Salem Open at Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Monday evening.
Koepfer, ranked No 78, will play lucky loser Strong Kirchheimer next.
