Cincinnati Masters: Sonego goes the distance against Shevchenko, into second round

Italian Lorenzo Sonego moved into the second round of the Cincinnati Masters by defeating Russian qualifier Alexander Shevchenko 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at the Linder Tennis Family Center on Tuesday afternoon.

Despite dropping the second set to an inspired Shevchenko, Sonego was playing some good tennis, striking 28 winner to 15 unforced errors across the match, and winning 81 percent of points behind his first serve.

Sonego, ranked No 39, will play American Taylor Fritz, the No 9 seed, next.
