Swiss Belinda Bencic, the No 12 seed, advanced to the second round of the Canadian Open by defeating Italian Lucia Bronzetti 6-2, 6-3 at Stade IGA in Montreal on Monday.
Bencic, ranked No 13, will play the winner of the match between qualifier Alycia Parks and Lauren Davis next.
