Mubadala DC Citi Open: No more play on Thursday night due to rain
Play has been cancelled for the day at the Citi Open 2023 in Washington, pushing several matches to Friday including Fritz vs Murray and Tiafoe vs Shang
Fans at the Mubadala DC Citi Open have spent a frustrating five hours at the Rock Creek Tennis Center on Thursday evening, with play finally called off for the day after persistent light drizzle caused prolonged suspensions of play throughout the evening.
The cancellation of any further play on Thursday leaves several matches unplayed from day six of the Mubadala DC Citi Open 2023.
Juncheng Shang and Frances Tiafoe managed to get on court for their coin toss, but were quickly ushered off under umbrellas without hitting a ball. They will return tomorrow, where the winner will be forced to do double-duty and play their quarter-final match as well.
Other matches that have been pushed to Friday include Taylor Fritz vs Andy Murray, as well as Maria Sakkari vs Leylah Fernandez.
Two men’s singles matches were suspended during play, with Gael Monfils having squared up at a set apiece against Tallon Griekspoor and trailing 1-0 in the third, and Jordan Thompson leading Christopher Eubanks 5-2 in the first set.
Should the weather behave, Friday at the Citi Open will be a busy one.
