Top seed Casper Ruud defeated Alexander Shevchenko 6-2, 6-4 at the Nordea Open – a tournament he won back in 2021.
“I am very happy to win. It was tough here for me last year, losing in my first match, so to get a win is good, in front of a Scandinavian crowd,” said the Norwegian in his on-court interview. “It was very difficult with the wind today, conditions were a bit challenging but I was able to do good enough.”
He is now through to his fifth ATP Tour quarter-final of the season, with a clay-court record this season of 18-6.

He also leads the ATP Tour since the start of 2020 when it comes to clay – he has 88 match wins, reaching 12 finals and winning nine titles.
Ruud will now face Sebastian Ofner, who defeated Bernabe Zapata Miralles 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Shevchenko is still seeking his first win against a player ranked in the Top 10, with his stats now standing at 0-3.
