Swedish Open, Palermo Open and Hungarian Grand Prix: Second round results
Four matches were scheduled to take place in the ATP 250 event in Bastad today, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake
It was day three of the Nordea Open in Bastad, Sweden, where the first set of last 16 matches got underway.
Lorenzo Musetti advanced to the quarter-finals with a tight three set win over compatriot Matteo Arnaldi. Musetti eventually won out 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (6), taking the match in a close final-set breaker.
Musetti will play Austrian Filip Misolic in the last eight, after he came through a similarly tough encounter with Jozef Kovalík of Slovakia. Misolic recovered from a set down to come through that match 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4.
Francisco Cerundolo, meanwhile, recorded a straightforward straight sets victory over Luca Van Assche of France. The recent Eastbourne champion won 6-2, 6-3 with little trouble to move in to the last eight.
Leo Borg is scheduled to play Federico Coria of Argentina in the evening.
Borg, son of 11-time Grand Slam champion Bjorn Borg, won his first ever ATP Tour match in the previous round, beating fellow Swede Elias Ymer 7-6 (5), 6-3 to record a landmark win.
WTA Results
Over on the WTA, in the last 16 of the Palermo Open, there were wins for Sorribes Tormo, (6-3, 6-2) over Italian Nuria Brancaccio, and Clara Burel of France who won 6-2, 6-4 over Spaniard Cristina Bucsa. Burel and Sorribes Tormo will face each other in the quarter-finals.
At the Budapest Grand Prix, there was victory for Hungarian Fanny Stollar.
Stollar, playing in a home tournament, beat Tatjana Maria 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (6) to reach the last eight.
Kaja Juvan beat Astra Sharma 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, while Schmiedlová came from a set down to beat Tamara Korpatsch of Germany 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
