Grand Est Open: Rus beats Pavlyuchenkova to win the title
The Dutchwoman climbs to No 62 in the latest world rankings
Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 4 seed, won the Grand Est Open title by beating Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the No 8 seed, 6-3, 6-3 at Tennis Club de Contrexéville in Contréxeville on Sunday afternoon.
Rus, ranked No 86, defeated American qualifier Elvina Kalieva (6-1, 6-3), Russian Erika Andreeva (3-6, 6-2, 6-4), German Eva Lys (6-4, 6-4) and French wildcard Fiona Ferro (6-2, 7-5) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds of the Contréxeville tournament, Pavlyuchenkova, ranked No 119, beat French wildcard Amandine Hesse (6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (7)), Spanish lucky loser Rosa Vicens Mas (6-4, 7-6 (4)), Italian Sara Errani, the No 3 seed (6-1, 6-0) and qualifier Tereza Martincova (6-2, 1-0 ret.).
With the win, Rus climbs to No 62 in the rankings, one spot below her peak ranking of No 61 which she achieved in 2012.
