Veneto Open: Maria makes final

German Tatjana Maria, the top seed, advanced to the final of the Veneto Open by winning against Serb Olga Danilovic, the No 4 seed, 6-1, 6-3 at the Tennis Club Gaiba on Saturday afternoon.
Maria, ranked No 66, will play the winner of the match between Robin Montgomery and Ashlyn Krueger next.
The 35-year-old German beat Swiss Ylena In-Albon (6-3, 6-4), Italian wildcard Lisa Pigato (6-3, 6-3) and Belgian Yanina Wickmayer, the No 8 seed (6-3, 7-5) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds of the Gaiba tournament, Danilovic, ranked No 101, defeated Italian wildcard Alessandra Teodosescu (6-2, 7-5), Austrian Sinja Kraus (6-3, 7-6 (2)) and Chinese Yue Yuan, the No 6 seed (6-4, 7-6 (5)).
