Halle: Rublev through to semi-finals
Andrey Rublev edged out Tallon Griekspoor 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Friday evening and will play Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, the No 8 seed, in the next round
Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 3 seed, edged out Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals of Halle at the Owl Arena/Gerry-Weber-Stadion on Friday evening.
Rublev, ranked No 7, will face Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, the No 8 seed, next as he seeks to return to the final and do better than he did in 2021, when he lost to Ugo Humbert.
The Russian defeated Chinese Yibing Wu (6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-2) and German wildcard Yannick Hanfmann (7-6 (6), 6-3) ahead of his victory.
In the previous rounds of the Halle Open, Griekspoor, ranked No 29, won against Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena (6-2, 7-5) and edged out Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 6 seed (6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (8)). He came into the tournament off his second title of the season, on the Den Bosch grass.
