Veteran Frenchman Gasquet stuns top seed Tsitsipas in Stuttgart for 600th ATP Tour win
Richard Gasquet edged out Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6 (8), 2-6, 7-5 on Thursday evening. He’ll play German Jan-Lennard Struff in the next round
Frenchman Richard Gasquet rolled back the years as he beat Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the top seed, 7-6 (8), 2-6, 7-5 to move into the quarter-finals of the Stuttgart Open at Tennis Club Weissenhof on Thursday evening.
Gasquet, ranked No 55, will play German Jan-Lennard Struff next. The victory was his 600th on the ATP Tour.
“It’s a big achievement for me. It’s incredible to achieve it,” Gasquet said, quoted by the ATP Tour website. “I played 20 years on the Tour and to win 600 matches, it’s big for me. I’m very happy with this number. Of course I will try to win some more.”

Tsitispas raced into a 3-0 lead but Frenchman Gasquet hit back to snatch the set on the tiebreak. Tsitsipas rallied to level but Gaquet continued to press and finally got the vital break in the 12th game to clinch victory.
Ahead of his victory, the 36-year-old Frenchman won against American qualifier Christopher Eubanks (7-6 (2), 6-4).
