Nottingham Open: Qualifier Mandlik upsets Giorgi to claim quarter-final spot

American qualifier Elizabeth Mandlik upset Italian Camila Giorgi, the No 7 seed, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Nottingham Open at Nottingham Tennis Centre on Thursday.
Mandlik, ranked No 110 and the daughter of four-time Grand Slam singles champion Hana Mandlikova, will face Frenchwoman Alize Cornet next.
The 22-year-old American edged out Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova (6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (5)) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Nottingham tournament, Giorgi, ranked No 47, beat American Madison Brengle (7-6 (5), 6-2).
