Swede Mirjam Bjorklund beat Russian lucky loser Darya Astakhova 6-4, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Valencia Open at the Valencia Tennis Club on Wednesday evening.
Bjorklund, ranked No 192, will face the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Leolia Jeanjean and Argentinian Nadia Podoroska, the No 8 seed, next.
The Swede won against Hungarian Anna Bondar (6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-3) in the previous round of the BBVA Open.
In the previous round of the BBVA Open, Astakhova, ranked No 201, won against Slovenian Kaja Juvan (7-6 (7), 5-7, 6-3).
