Dutch Open: Hijikata beats Huesler to reach quarter-finals
Rinky Hijikata beat Marc-Andrea Huesler 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 on Wednesday and will play the winner of the match between Croat Borna Coric, the No 3 seed, and American Mackenzie McDonald in the next round
Australian lucky loser Rinky Hijikata advanced to the last eight of the Dutch Open by winning against Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 at the Autotron Rosmalen in s-Hertogenbosch on Wednesday afternoon.
Hijikata, ranked No 133, will play the winner of the match between Croat Borna Coric, the No 3 seed, and American Mackenzie McDonald next.
Ahead of his victory, the 22-year-old Australian beat Dutch wildcard Gijs Brouwer (6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-2).
Huesler, ranked No 82, won against American Maxime Cressy, the No 8 seed (6-2, 7-6 (2)) in the previous round of the Rosmalen.
