Roland-Garros: Swiatek continues mastery over Gauff to set up semi-final against Haddad Maia
The Pole won against Coco Gauff 6-4, 6-2 on Wednesday to move within two wins away from a third French Open title
Poland’s Iga Swiatek, the top seed and defending champion, continued her domination over young American Coco Gauff, winning their quarter-final clash to advance to the last four at Roland-Garros in Paris on Wednesday.
Swiatek resisted a tough challenge from Gauff, whom she beat in the final last year, and then had an easier time in the second to win 6-4, 6-2 over the sixth seed.

This was Swiatek’s seventh win in as many matches over Gauff, who has yet to take a set off the Pole, who is gunning for her third French Open title in four years.
Swiatek, ranked No 1 but in danger of losing her top spot to Aryna Sabalenka this fortnight, will play Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 14 seed, next.
The women’s semi-finals are now set with Sabalenka, who won the Australian Open, taking on Czech Karolina Muchova in the other semi-final.
Ahead of her victory, the 22-year-old Pole won against Spaniard Cristina Bucsa (6-4, 6-0), American Claire Liu (6-4, 6-0), Chinese Xinyu Wang (6-0, 6-0) and Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko (5-1 ret.).
Gauff, ranked No 6, defeated Spaniard Rebeka Masarova (3-6, 6-1, 6-2), Austrian Julia Grabher (6-2, 6-3), Russian qualifier Mirra Andreeva (6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-1) and Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (7-5, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the French Open.
