Nick Kyrgios to miss Roland-Garros after injuring foot during a car theft at his house

Nick Kyrgios will miss Roland-Garros because of a foot injury he sustained during a car theft at his house, according to his agent.

Police alleged that Kyrgios’ car was stolen at gunpoint from the Australian’s mother in Canberra earlier this month.

It is understood that Kyrgios injured his foot during the theft when rushing through his house to respond to his mother’s distress.

“With all the stuff that was going on, Nick lacerated the side of his left foot. We don’t know how,” his agent Daniel Horsfall told Reuters.

Speaking about Kyrgios’ injury, Horsfall added: “He couldn’t slide, couldn’t get on court because every time he put a shoe on it moved and it [the cut] would re-open.”

The most frustrating part of all this for Kyrgios is that the knee injury that has kept him out of action all season has healed. The Australian required surgery on the knee at the beginning of the year, but he recovered well from the procedure.

“His knee, as far as we’re concerned, is actually in fantastic shape, the surgery went well.

“His fitness is at a fantastic level. It was just when we got to the last point of that rehab, the on-court loading, this freak accident happened.”

Kyrgios still expected at Wimbledon and UTS

Kyrgios is now expected to be out for another two-and-a-half weeks, with hopes to be fit in time for the grass-court season.

He is also due to compete in the UTS event in Los Angeles at the end of July, where Kyrgios’ participation has been confirmed alongside the likes of Taylor Fritz, Diego Schwartzman and Frances Tiafoe (tickets here).

It has been a difficult time for the Australian, who has also revealed on social media the recent loss of his grandmother.

“Seems like I can’t catch a break right now,” Kyrgios wrote on Instagram.

“RIP Yiayia, the best we could ask for. Go enjoy your time with Papou now.”

The next Grand Slam Kyrgios can now play at will be Wimbledon, where he will look to go one better than his superb run last year, where he reached the final.
