Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 4 seed, won against Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the last eight of the Firenze Ladies Open on Thursday.
Paolini, ranked No 65, will face Swiss Ylena In-Albon next.
In the previous round, the Italian edged out Katie Swan (6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7)).
Yastremska, ranked No 158, beat Italian wildcard Camilla Rosatello (6-3, 7-5) in the last 32.
