Italian Open: Kudermetova reaches semi-finals
Veronika Kudermetova edged out Qinwen Zheng 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday and will play the winner of the match between Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 12 seed, and Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, the No 30 seed, in the next round
Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 11 seed, moved into the last 4 of the Italian Open by edging out Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 22 seed, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the Foro Italico in Rome on Tuesday.
Kudermetova, ranked No 12, will face the winner of the match between Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 12 seed, and Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, the No 30 seed, next.
The Russian defeated Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz (7-5, 6-2), No 23 seed Anastasia Potapova (7-5, 3-6, 6-1) and Czech Marie Bouzkova, the No 27 seed (6-2, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Rome tournament, Zheng, ranked No 21, won against Frenchwoman Alize Cornet (6-3, 7-6 (2)), Hungarian qualifier Anna Bondar (7-6 (2), 6-4) and Xiyu Wang (6-4, 3-6, 6-1).
