Ostapenko reaches Rome fourth round with unbelievable comeback against Krejcikova
Jelena Ostapenko beat Barbora Krejcikova 7-6 (2), 6-0 on Sunday and will face Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 8 seed, in the next round
Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 20 seed, advanced to the round of 16 at the Italian Open by winning against Czech Barbora Krejcikova, the No 10 seed, 7-6 (2), 6-0 at the Foro Italico in Rome on Sunday.
She lost 16 consecutive points in the first set and was 5-1 down before coming back to force a tiebreak – which she won before proceeding to hammer home her momentum with a bagel set, winning 31 of the last 37 points.
Ostapenko, ranked No 20, will play Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 8 seed, next.
The Latvian beat Romanian Sorana Cirstea (6-3, 3-6, 6-2) in the previous round of the Rome tournament.
In the 64 of the Rome tournament, Krejcikova, ranked No 13, benefited from the abandonment of Montenegrin Danka Kovinic (6-2, 4-1).
