Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz won against Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Catalonia Open on Thursday night.
Parrizas Diaz, ranked No 76, will face the winner of the match between American qualifier Elizabeth Mandlik and Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 6 seed, next.
The Spaniard defeated Chinese Xinyu Wang, the No 4 seed (6-0, 7-6 (3)) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Rus, ranked No 107, edged out Hungarian Dalma Galfi (1-6, 6-4, 6-4).
