Bogota Open: Wimbledon semi-finalist Maria advances to last eight
The German will face the winner of the match between Austrian qualifier Sinja Kraus and Italian qualifier Nuria Brancaccio in the next round
German Tatjana Maria, the second seed and defending champion, reached the last eight of the Bogota Open by winning against Brazilian qualifier Carolina M. Alves 6-2, 6-4 at the Country Club Bogota on Wednesday.
Maria, ranked No 66 in the world and a semi-finalist at Wimbledon last year, will face the winner of the match between Austrian qualifier Sinja Kraus and Italian qualifier Nuria Brancaccio next.
In the previous round of the Colombia Open, the 35-year-old German beat American Katrina Scott (6-1, 6-4).
Alves, ranked No 239, defeated Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2)earlier in the week.
