Resurgent Kenin sets Andreescu third-round clash at Miami
Sofia Kenin beat Anhelina Kalinina 6-3, 6-4 on Friday evening. She’ll play Canadian Bianca Andreescu in the next round
American Sofia Kenin moved into the third round of the Miami Open by winning against Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, the No 28 seed, 6-3, 6-4 at the Hard Rock Stadium on Friday evening.
The 2020 Australian Open champion and Roland-Garros runner-up reached as high as No 4 in the world before injuries sabotaged her progress.
Kenin, ranked No 164, will play Canadian Bianca Andreescu next. Andreescu holds a 2-1 edge in the pair’s tour-level head-to-head, which includes a win over Kenin in Miami in the second round in 2019.
The American, who dropped out of the top 400 last summer for a spell due to injuries, beat Australian Storm Hunter (6-0, 7-6 (5)) in the previous round of the Miami tournament.
