Indian Wells: Auger-Aliassime saves SIX match points to beat Paul, plays Alcaraz as QF line-up set
The Canadian edged out 17th seed Tommy Paul 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6) on Tuesday night
Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 8 seed, was one point away six times during his fourth round clash against American Tommy Paul, the No 17 seed, in the fourth round of the Indian Wells Masters on Tuesday night.
Each time, Auger-Aliassime saved the match point before finally emerging a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6) winner to move into the quarter-finals.
Auger-Aliassime, ranked No 10, will face Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, next.
Earlier in the tournament, the 22-year-old Canadian beat Spaniard Pedro Martinez (7-6 (5), 6-4) and Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 27 seed (7-5, 6-4).
Paul, ranked No 19, won against German qualifier Jan-Lennard Struff (6-3, 6-3) and edged out Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 9 seed (4-6, 6-2, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Indian Wells Tennis Masters.
With this, the quarter-final line-up has been set at Indian Wells.
